The revised edition of prompt #7 Transracial Adoption Yes or No?
The reason I decided to revise this blog is because I messed it up and did not follow instructions. So I would like to do this blog right.
I believe that racial ideas and fears stem from personal experiences or when someone hears about another person’s experience with people of another race. Racial fears and ideas probably start developing when a child is no longer colorblind to races. Race is still an issue but it should not be. The U.S. has not seen the dawn of post-racial America. I cannot say if the end of racism is near. Some people can never changed in their way of thinking. But hopefully the next generations will learn to accept each other no matter what their color.
I believe that people should be able to adopt children outside of their race. There are so many children in the world that need loving families, so we cannot be picky in picking parents. When my parents were looking for me they did want a “healthy white child”. I just happened to come their way. But if they could not find one, Mom and Dad would have taken any child that needed a home.
I think Katie would somewhat be adversely affected by being in a black family. She knows that she is different but hopefully she does not think about it all the time. I do not, but I do wonder what my other family is like and what my heritage is.
I think the lawmakers are just making a big deal out of nothing. Adoption should not be based on race. I should be based no the family and how it will riase the adopted child and if it will be loved.
